Activator for Class II Growing Patients
Activator
Product Features:
Suitable for Class II patients in the growth period; use cautiously for high-angle cases. Expansion screw can be added for transverse discrepancy, and the guiding inclines need adjustment. The reverse activator (guided-bow activator) is indicated for Class III patients.
Note:
Wear as instructed by the clinician. Start with 3–4 hours daily at first, then extend wearing time gradually. Wear it all the time except during eating and speaking. Check temporomandibular joint discomfort or tenderness, as well as soreness of lips, tongue, gingiva and muscles at follow-up visits.
Cleaning method is the same as removable orthodontic appliances.
Guiding surface adjustment for Class II cases: a. Trim the distal part of the base plate on the lingual surface of upper posterior teeth to form a guiding surface for distal movement of upper molars. b. Trim the mesial part of the base plate on the lingual surface of lower posterior teeth to form a guiding surface for mesial movement of lower molars. c. Adjust the palatal base plate behind upper anterior teeth to allow lingual movement. d. If lower anterior teeth are proclined, relieve the lingual base plate to avoid contact with lower anteriors.
Model requirement: Maxillary and mandibular models with wax bite registration.
Occlusal reconstruction: Single mandibular advancement shall not exceed 5–7 mm; vertical bite opening is about 3–4 mm for wax bite registration.
